We need to stop swallowing the rubbish that gets peddled out by clubs about "the risk" with signing players.

It's the clubs job to assess the risk and go out and buy players that are needed.

Every team buys players that do well and don't do well - that's life.

To use that as an excuse for only having one (converted from a winger) striker at the club is wrong .

Thankfully, that massive gamble hasn't fucked up.

BUT DONT DO IT AGAIN!!!

The main problem in getting a better version than Antonio is that the price would be huge & as mentioned here, there is always an element of risk buying overseas.

I would guess is the reason why Moyes tends to prefer to sign a wide players who can score at a third of the price (£20-£25m ie Vlasic, Lingard, Bowen), rather than going all in on a £60m top quality front man.

In an ideal world I'm sure Moyes would like to sign a championship forward along the lines of Ivan Toney or Ollie Watkins (or Hugill from a few years ago). No idea if one exists though.

we've gone from constantly getting stuffed by these 4 or 5 -0 to being disappointed losing 2-1.

progress!

Even Haller scored 4 in his first 7 games so it's not like he struggled to hit the ground running either. He might well have gone on to score a lot if Fabianski hadn't got injured in that 7th game and fucked up our whole season, although in hindsight that was probably for the best.

If its such a risk to buy a new striker from abroad no PL club would ever do it and we'd all have English/Home Nation players....

To mitigate the risk we need to buy the right striker that fits the system that the Manager defines.

Haller never fitted the system and was too lazy to adjust - we must not make that mistake again.

It was an idiotic decision to not sign another striker once again, already cost us.

Re: ⚽ Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Suggesting that we should be wary about buying a striker because it apparently takes ages to adjust to our league, just highlights how we should have got one to compete with Antonio absolutely fucking ages ago.

Nonsense, can't believe some are dissing our fans. They have been magnificent all season.
Most of the game all you could hear was them, when we went two down they sung Bubbles too.

Was in a corporate lounge for the game, overheard some Citeh fans talking in the bogs after the game all agreeing that they thought Rice was MOM, said he played like a Rolls Royce.

Who said you're not allowed to think what you want. (Yes, it's a rhetorical question)

I think we're on completely different wavelengths.

You carry on thinking and saying what you think, I'll do the same.

Goodnight, mate

So have I. Fans are allowed to point out obvious weak areas in the squad and in our play. Be concerned that it could derail the momentum built up and a great opportunity of a bit of sustained success for once, without being accused of "mental gymnastics" or of expecting a top 4 finish, which no one has claimed.

360, your whole theory seems to be based solely on Werner and Haller. The vast majority of foreign strikers do
well, if they're good enough.

13 Brentford Rd,

Read my previous posts on this thread, I'd like to think I've made my thoughts clear, there.

Re: ⚽ Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Not really sure what you mean mate?

I was simply pointing out something that's.obvious and already cost us points, and been mentioned a lot lately on here, which is that we need to be more clinical and have competition for Antonio if we want to keep up the new benchmark.
It's not unrealistic or unreasonable to expect that we seriously challenge for a top 6 place again, unless you're happy with yet more broken promises and mediocrity interspersed with abject failure that we took as normal for decades.
We are one of the biggest clubs in the country and in Europe, okay not in the elite yet but we could be with our fanbase and history.

Sakho did to some extent?

The bloke rocked up and scored in his first six or seven consecutive games didn't he?

As far as hitting the ground running you dont get better than that.

Those striker came here a while ago. Kind of talking about in the last 2 or 3 yrs. Not WHU, I mean in the whole league.
I just cant think of a player recently that has done anything straight out of the gate and been consistent.

13 Brentford Rd,

Ok, mate.

I actually comment on these threads because of the mental gymnastics some of you go through, when there really is no need. I actually feel for you's doing it to yourselves, as fellow West Ham supporters.

More fool me, eh.

Re: ⚽ Man City v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Demba Ba definitely did. Sakho to some extent.

If you're not talking about WHU only, then the vast majority of foreign strikers in the PL have hit the ground running - Aubamayeng, Aguero, Jesus, Firmino, Jimenez, etc. etc.

Chelsea's a graveyard for foreign strikers and we ain't much better but generally foreign strikers do fine, so it's a silly statement. You just need to get one who'll fit with how the team plays.
